Measuring & Calculating Sod

How to Measure for Sod

To figure the number of pallets of sod you will need for your project, you will need to measure the areas that you plan to sod.

  1. Making a quick sketch of your yard can be helpful. Notate the dimensions of the areas to be sodded. Measure the areas in feet.
  2. Break your yard up into smaller sections if needed to get a more accurate estimate.
  3. Take out any areas that will not require sod – house, decks, patios, gardens ,etc.
  4. Be as accurate as possible and allow a little extra to make sure you have enough to complete your project.
  5. Convert your total square feet to number of pallets needed.

One pallet of Bermuda or Centipede contain 504 sq. ft. per pallet.

St. Augustine Palmetto, Zeon Zoysia & Ja Mur Zoysia contain 450 sq. ft. per pallet Divide the total square feet needed by the square feet in each pallet
In order to calculate the amount of sod required you must measure the length and width of the areas in feet to arrive at the total of square feet needed.

Length x Width= square feet

Example: 23′ x 25′ = 575 sq ft

Use the sod calculator to determine the total square feet for your project.
